So there’s manifesting, right? The idea that you can tell the universe what you want and it comes to you. Of course, there’s more to it— but kind of that’s how it works.
Then there’s busting your ass and working hard to get something. That’s a thing too.
Both of these resonate with me in different ways but the thing that has been the most abundant for me is welcoming. Welcoming things in, trying things on.
In 2023, after three solid years as a full-time voice actor working from an airplane-bathroom-sized booth, it became very apparent to me that I needed community in my work.
I am a people person. I thrive on being with people. I shrivel up and die when left alone too long.
My clients are amazing and I push for directed sessions and intro calls whenever I can – it fills me up. But I needed peers who were my friends – like on a regular basis. Hanging out and speaking into each others lives and careers. So I started to welcome that in. And while I was actively pulling that energy in I was also out there pounding the proverbial streets asking people to be my buds. I started a mastermind group; that petered out. I joined a bunch of workshops; that went nowhere in particular. I joined a marketing cohort; we lost steam.
Then at the very end of 2023 Voice Over for the Planet birthed its gooey adorable little self right into my lap with very little effort from me. I welcomed it. And it came.
SIDE NOTE: VO4TP is a collective of voice actors who are committed to working with value aligned companies. For every paid job we book through the collective we donate a VO to a nonprofit partner. We also support each other in our lives and careers and we are trying to be…wait for it…a force for good in the world 😉
It’s this amazing thing that I never could have envisioned in order to manifest. And there is no way that I could have busted my ass and worked for it (it has been a lot of work don’t get me wrong). Opening myself up to opportunity and welcoming in whatever came was a freaking goldmine.
So I’m trying to keep a hold of that mindset and tune out the “New Year, New You” noise a bit.
Does that resonate? Is there something that you are welcoming in this year?
I created a workbook for myself to help me organize all my dreams for 2025. I shared it with some of my friends and they liked it. You are my friend. It’s HERE if you would like to download it.
