I think I can claim that summer is officially over today. Yes, it doesn’t officially, officially end until September 22nd, but that’s inconsequential to life.

The energy shifts at the end of August—kids go back to school, people return from their beach vacations, and Home Depot is full of Halloween decorations, which makes you realize Halloween is just around the corner, shortly followed by Thanksgiving, then the December holidays, and the end of the year!!! Holy s*&@t, where is my life going?!

And while the anxiety pulls me into the future, the sadness pulls me into the past (um, isn’t this a newsletter about JOY!?!?). A lovely summer of fun was had at my house. There was less working, more board games, more cuddles, and lots more fudgesicles. And if I am being honest here, I’m not ready to let it go. Hence the sadness.

But that is how transitions work, isn’t it? To move forward, you have to let go of what came before. And a lot of times, you have no say over when these transitions happen. The invisible thread of time pulls you over the line (pretty poetic imagery, if I do say so myself).

So, I’m moving into this next season, albeit a bit begrudgingly. But because I am a joy seeker, I have been asking myself: How can I find the magic and beauty in the transition? How can I nourish myself during this time? How can I enter in with excitement?

A challenge—that’s how! As you know, I am a very competitive person, and I love a challenge. I’m dedicating 15 minutes each day in September to being creative, just for the sake of creativity.

The only rule I have made for myself is that the 15 minutes cannot be related to anything I would be doing anyway. I am being creative working on this LinkedIn banner on Canva? I am being creative frosting my daughter’s birthday cake? True, those are all creative things—but I would have done them anyway. They aren’t creativity for creativity’s sake.

Want to join me and see if it eases us into this next season with more mindfulness and contentment?

Okay, good. Looking forward to hearing how it goes. 😉

What things will you choose to spend your 15 minutes on?!
For me it will be drawing, writing short stories, dancing, painting, Ooo maybe finger painting – when was the last time you did that?!
